For Day 2 of UR Enough’s Twelve Days of Kindness, we thought we would get a little vulnerable. We have found that sometimes society can be a little insular. I mean think about it, we take the bus and our eyes probably don’t leave our phone. So today we are pursuing tiny acts of bravery by offering compliments to a stranger. Reaching out to someone who is a total mystery to you might take you out of your comfort zone, but you never know how powerful your offering might be. That girl whose hair you just complimented? She is on her way to a big interview, and your words may have improved her confidence. That man whose smile you commented upon? He could have been feeling lonely until you spoke up. Your simple act of kindness has the power to make someone’s day a whole lot better.
So, when you see something beautiful in someone, tell them. It might take you a few seconds to say, but for them, it could last a lifetime. And an added bonus, compliments, admiration, and genuine appreciation can create a snowball effect. You can’t change how the world works with one compliment, but every little bit of positivity helps. Truly.
